My mom is Nora Thomas and she was a friend of Ellen's for many years. Three years ago,Ellen drove in her bright red car to Sarnia for a surprise celebration for my mom's 90th birthday on July 1st and I was very impressed with her enthusiasm for life! Being a retired teacher myself....I am sure it has something to do with that!
My mom was sad to read of Ellen's death in the paper today and had already been thinking of her upcoming birthday in July.
Mom and Ellen met in Grand Bend at Grand Cove and were friendly there but became real friends when Ellen moved to London, where my mom was,and then continued their friendship when mom moved to Tilsonburg. Mom was telling me about their travels together to Arizona and Michigan etc and the times Ellen visited in Tilsonburg and called them her "min-holidays".
Mom said she enjoyed Ellen's company very much....always lots of laughs... and she was such a gracious lady with a great honesty in her thoughts and opinions.
How wonderful that Ellen was able to make it to such an advanced age with her mind still intact. I feel very lucky that my mom is sharp too and am enjoying every day with her.It is hard for them to lose the few friends they have left.,though.Sorry if I have rambled on but it made mom feel better that you could know that she had a special relationship Ellen and shares in your grief.

We just read about the death of your mom in the London Free Press..We were just saying we hadnt heard from her and thought her birthday was coming up soon. She lived her life to the fullest and was full of teacher stories. After our mom died she wrote several memories of their childhood for me to keep.As kids we will remember coming to Chatham on Sundays to visit Aunt Ellen and family. We send our sympathy along with my sister ,Jane and family to all of you.

Ellen was my next-door neighbour on Berkshire Drive for several years.. She was a lovely lady and a good friend. I enjoyed her great sense of humour and a delight to join in conversation. I shall miss her.
