Ann Higgens

Death Notice

Higgens, Ann - Peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, Ann Higgens, nee Mitchell, in her 81st year. Beloved wife of the late Maurice (Jim) Higgens. Proud and loving mother of Jill (Tom Pillon), Catherine Higgens (Jeff Dodge), and Rosalind Higgens. Dear Nana to Janice, Alannah, and Julia. Fondly remembered by cousin Trevor Taylor and sister of the late Derrick Mitchell of Halifax, England. Ann led a full and unique life with a strong spirit and terrific sense of humour. Her musical and dance career saw her tour Europe after WWII with such names as Bob Hope, Benny Hill, Danny Kaye and Roy Castle. In 1955 she married Jim and they emigrated to Canada where they raised their three daughters. In her 40s she started a successful real estate career that spanned Cornwall, Montreal and London. Many will remember her as a wicked curler, billiard and bridge player and lawn bowler. Special thanks to the wonderful care given by the Multi-organ Transplant Unit at University Hospital. Friends may gather on Saturday, January 14 from 2-4 pm at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond. Cremation and private interment in the spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Lung Association or London Health Sciences Foundation (MOTU) would be gratefully acknowledged.
