Gertrude Charters

Death Notice

CHARTERS, Gertrude Maria - Trudy died peacefully at her residence in London, Ontario on June 14, 2012 at 94 years of age. Trudy was born in Linz, Austria, married in England in 1943, came to Canada as a war bride (Brampton, ON) in 1946 and moved to London in 1977. Predeceased by her husband Samuel Richard (1997) and her son Samuel Victor (1988)(Anne Charters-Klaver). Daughter of the late Gisela Erna (Vogelfänger) (1945) and Josef Franz Kubasta (1943). Loving mother of Caroline Read (Arthur) of Kitchener and Rosalyn Smith (David) of London. Sister of John Kubasta (Ann 2008) of Thornhill and the late Walter Kubasta (Poldi) of Waterloo. Will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Chris Read (Heather), Sandy Hillier (Jeff), Ian Read (Emma Thacker), Matthew Smith (Beth Riley), Kara Semotiuk (Brad), Jonathan Smith (Sandy) and Nicholas Charters-Klaver. Oma to great-grandchildren Sam, MacKenzie, Blakeley and Joe Read; Ryan and Shane Hillier; Logan, Addison and Carter Riley Smith; Duncan and Theodore Semotiuk; and Hannah Smith. Remembered by her brother-in-law Robert Charters (Katie 2011) and sister-in-law Marion Carroll (Fenton) and by her nieces, nephews and many friends. Trudy had a great zest for life, a great love of family and enjoyed a wide range of interests including sports, the arts, politics and bridge. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, London, on Saturday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
