Edwin Tufts

Death Notice

Peacefully, surrounded by family, Norman Edwin Tufts passed away Friday, June 29, 2012, in his eighty-eighth year. A well respected educator and lifelong learner, Edwin leaves to mourn, Ruth, his beloved wife of sixty four years, and his cherished family. Left to follow his fine example of a life well lived are his children Anne (Gerry) Baverstock, Joan (David) Carrothers, and Paul (Janet) Tufts. Comforted by many fond memories of their dear "Grandpa" or "Papa"are his grandchildren Brian, Scott & Mark (Nicole) Rawson, Laura (Sandeep), Brent (Kelly) and Natalie Carrothers, and Jonathan, Nicola and Patrick Tufts. Edwin was the great grandfather of Austen and Aria Rawson. Edwin will be greatly missed by his sisters, Marion Funnell of Woodstock and Norma McIntyre of London. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law Mary Tufts of St. Mary's, Phyllis (Keith) Tyndall of Clinton, Lois (John) McKenzie of Victoria, B.C., his brother-in-law Doug (Louise) Middleton of Oakville, and by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Edwin was predeceased by his parents, Truman & Florence (Mills) Tufts, his brothers, Leroy & Ross Tufts, brothers-in-law Lorraine Funnell, Gil McIntyre, Bill Moore, Bert (Millie), John (Marcella) and Ross (Mabel) Middleton, and sisters-in-law Edith Sandusky, Marion (Francis) Powell, and June (Allen) White. Edwin received excellent care in the Critical Care Trauma Centre. Thank you Dr. Kao and all of the nursing staff for your kindness, compassion and expertise. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, on Wednesday, July 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A memorial service, conducted by Rev. David Carrothers, will be held at Colborne St. United Church, 711 Colborne Street at Piccadilly, Thursday, July 5 at 11 am.
