Godfrey Sproule

Death Notice

Sproule, Godfrey Gale - Peacefully at Mount Hope on Tuesday, January 22 in his 98th year. Dear Father of John Sproule and his husband Rev. Dr. Brent Hawkes, C.M. Predeceased by his wife Jean Annie (McMartin) Sproule, his parents Nellie (Gale) Sproule and Robert Auchmuty Lee Sproule, and his brothers and sisters Robert Merrivale Sproule, Dorthy Marrion Artesoif Scott, Kathleen Richmond Martin, Elenor Shannon Sproule, and George Sproule. Godfrey was in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and was shot down over Berlin. He survived as a prisoner of war. An avid gardener and baker, Godfrey was proud of his son and the appointment of his son-in-law of 31 years to the Order of Canada. The family wishes to thank the staff of Mount Hope for their excellent care. Godfrey stated "I don't deserve to be so happy. I am surrounded by love." The funeral service will be conducted at Our Lady of Hope Chapel, Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care, 21 Grosvenor Street, London on Friday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation from 10:00 to 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Chapel. Interment Merrivale Cemetery, Ottawa. Memorial contributions to St. Joseph's Health Care Foundation (Mount Hope) or to the Unitarian Fellowship of London would be gratefully acknowledged.
