John was one-of-a-kind. He was a pillar of the famous department of clinical neurosciences at Western in its heyday. I am the better for his presence.

JCEK was the best and most inspiring teacher I I have ever had the privilege to know in my life. He was an icon to so many. Together, Barney, Charley and John inspired a generation. Icons and inspirational leaders. Thank you John. Michael Farrell, Dublin

Dr. Kaufmann taught me the basics of neuropath and he had been so kind to me and my family while we were living in London. All I can say is how sorry we are and how much we loved you.

Unfortunately myself and my wife Suanne Kelman cannot make it on March 2. I got sick today and wouldn't want to spew viruses to those gathered. Please send my best wishes. John was a class act of the clinical neuroscience department back when. This combined department was glorified for its amalgamation of neurology and neurosurgery with neuropathology and neuroradiology as integral members. That model had the stamp of John's expertise with it,. Too bad few departments have that today.

So very sorry to hear of John's passing. I had the privilege and distinct honour of knowing him with memory of the snippets of delightful conversation I had with him when he was the close friend of the late Dr Elliot McCaughey (deceased in Ottawa) and had visited the McCaugheys often with his beloved wife, Susanne. I cherish those memories, John. Rest in peace!
