H. Alex Clark

Death Notice

CLARK, H. Alex - passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 25, 2013 at the age of 87. Alex was the beloved husband of Joan and father of Scott (Cathy), Don (Lorraine), Kevin (Jane) and Ann. He was also the grandfather of Debbie (Michael) Hammond, Bryan Clark, Katy and Jenny Clark, Ryan (Sarah) Clark, Alysen (Dan) Lougheed, Trevor Clark and Robert (Melissa), Andrew, Christopher (Alexandra), and Michelle Dykeman. Proud great-grandfather of Kylie and Gavin Clark, Chelsey Dykeman and Sarah Hammond. Predeceased by granddaughters Suzanne Clark and Sarah Dykeman. Alex will be remembered fondly by his family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Alex grew up in Brantford where at the age of 13, he began his 75 year career as a church musician. He continued in positions at North Street United Church in Goderich and Trinity Lutheran Church in London. Following these positions, Alex served for 32 years as organist and choir director at Metropolitan United Church and in retirement, as organist at St. Paul's Cathedral, both in London. From 1948 -1969, Alex taught music at Goderich District Collegiate Institute and at Medway High School in Arva. He served as Music Consultant in Elgin County from 1969 until his retirement from teaching in 1982. He will be remembered as a wonderful musician, organist, choir leader and teacher who inspired and challenged those with whom he worked. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 28th from 2-3:30 pm and 7-8:30 pm at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond. A memorial service will be conducted at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington St. at Duffern Ave., London, on Friday March 1st at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Metropolitan United Church Foundation would be appreciated.
