CORNEIL, Marjory Elizabeth (Betty) nee Burgess - Peacefully on October 23, 2013 at The Village of Glendale Crossing, London Ontario, in her 99th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years Gordon Lethbridge Corneil. Loving mother of Derek (Barbara), Diane and Bruce (Elizabeth), deeply missed by 6 grandchildren (Glenn, Brian, Jennifer; Ian, Heather and Andrew) and 14 great-grandchildren (Patrick, Alexa, Heidi, Scott; Kimberly, Eric, Adrienne; Ethan, Joshua, Leah; Isabelle, Amelie; Lillian and Gwen). Betty was born on a farm in Yarmouth Township (Union) near St. Thomas, Ontario. She went to The University of Western Ontario and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1934. After graduating, Betty worked at The London Life Insurance Company where she met her soul mate Gordon. During the war years Betty joined Gordon in Quebec City where he was posted as the Commanding Officer of CFB Valcartier. Upon returning to London, in addition to raising her 3 children, Betty was active in many volunteer, educational and social pursuits including the University Women's Club and Metropolitan United Church (UCW). She loved the arts, reading, playing bridge, spending summers at Bruce Beach, exercising at UWO, and entertaining to name just a few of her many activities. She was a very kind person and was always ready to help someone in need. Betty was devoted to her family and delighted in the arrival of her grandchildren and in later life her great-grandchildren. Sharing time with her family and friends at her treasured Bruce Beach was a highlight of Betty's life. The family expresses its deepest gratitude to the staff at The Village of Glendale Crossing for their compassion and loving care. We also extend a very special thank you to Diane for being with Betty when we couldn't be. Her regular visits, cheeriness and devotion to her mother made Betty's final journey so much easier for us to bear. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at Metropolitan United Church, 468 Wellington St., London ON on Thursday October 31, 2013 at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Alzheimer's Society of Canada or Metropolitan United Church.
