Kenneth Rusnell

Death Notice

RUSNELL, Kenneth Carl- Peacefully on Sunday, December 22nd, 2013 in his 94th year at the University Campus of the London Health Sciences Centre. Pre-deceased in 2011 by his wife of 70 years, Fern Rusnell; devoted father of Faye (Dr. Rod Willis, London) and Bryan (Jayne Ugolini, Barrie); enthusiastic and supportive grandfather of Lauren Thibodeau (Jean, Ottawa), Dr. Craig Willis (Amanda Karst, Winnipeg), Marq Rusnell (Cathy, Sutton) and Taylore Bell (Vancouver); and encouraging great grandfather of Clara, Alexandre and Samuel Thibodeau, Clark Rusnell and Madelyn Willis. Ken was raised in Stouffville with his six siblings before moving to Newmarket and, subsequently to Queensville and to Innerkip. He was successful in both insurance and real estate sales and management before concentrating on his small horse farm in retirement. He and his children raised and exhibited harness show ponies at numerous horse shows, capturing first place ribbons at both the Royal Winter Fair and the CNE. In later years he served as a respected judge at horse shows and rode his own horses until well into his 75th year. The family is grateful for the exemplary care provided by the staff at Kensington Retirement Residence and LHSC, by his family physicians, Drs. Robert Dunkerley and Heather Dunkerley and by the other medical team members that participated in his care. A memorial service to celebrate Ken's life will take place at the Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, London (519-433-7253) on Sunday, December 29th at 3:00 pm with visitation for 1 hour prior to the service. Donations in Ken's memory to the Alzheimer Society of London and Middlesex or to the Ivey Eye Institute at St. Joseph's Health Care will be appreciated by the family.
