Eleanor Robarts

Death Notice

Eleanor N Robarts ( nee Thomas ) in her 92nd year, loving wife & mother of Robert G Robarts & of daughter Andrea S Robarts, passed away peacefully with Andrea at her side January 23, 2014. As a "first year" active member of St Luke's Anglican Church, she was amongst other things a president of the ladies auxiliary during her 12 years in the parish. Laterally, Eleanor belonged to St John The Evangelist. Active in fund raising & local community affairs, including political campaigning for her brother in law the late John P Robarts, Eleanor was a member of the May Court Club, a volunteer driver for physically challenged children, & a volunteer in hematology at University Hospital London. A long-time member of the London Hunt & Country Club, Eleanor was an avid, competitive tennis and bridge player. Her passion for music and theatre were nurtured by opera singing lessons at Havergal College in Toronto and regular trips to New York for Broadway Musical Theatre. Her other great passion in life was for animals, which was expressed through the adoring presence of all her canine companions. When Eleanor was not in London, she spent time with Bob in the house they built together on their beloved island paradise Montserrat B.W.I. Special Thanks to Mary & Sandy Wellman owners of Medical Priorities in London, to all the caregivers and people instrumental in Mom's life over the past 13 years, and to Marie and Kim for their loyal, supportive, inexhaustible care and support of Eleanor that enabled her to stay in community for as long as she was able. Special Thanks also to the amazingly hard working, professional, knowledgeable, caring & pro palliative team on Buckingham Unit at Victoria Village. Dr. Michael McConvey ensured that appropriate palliative medication orders were available to Eleanor and with the attentive and knowledgeable ongoing assessment of the frontline nurses and care givers, Eleanor's pain management was further testimony to the top notch quality care provided by the Buckingham House Team at Victoria Village in Barrie Ont. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, London, on Sunday, January 26 at 1 pm.
