Preston, David Oliver FCA (July 5, 1931 - April 21, 2014) - Passed away at his residence surrounded by family on Monday, April 21, 2014 after a lengthy struggle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) starting in 2010. He was in his 83rd year. He was the dearly loved husband and best friend of Dorothy (married in 1952); loving father of John (Joann) and Anne (Art); cherished Papa of Rachel; dear brother of Marjorie Freeman (Bruce). David joined Clarkson Gordon (name changed to Ernst & Young in 1989) in Toronto from Newmarket High School in 1950, obtained his CA in 1956 and transferred to London, Ontario in 1963 where he was promoted to partner in 1966. He was given his FCA by the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1976. Dave retired in 1991 having spent his entire professional career with the same firm. He was past President of the Chartered Accountants Association of Western Ontario and a long time member of the Rotary Club of London where he became a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a director and treasurer of Westminster College, president of the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario and a director and life member of Victoria Hospital. David and wife Dorothy travelled a great deal both before and after retirement. A very special thanks to Dr. Joel Hurwitz for exemplary care and compassion. The family is most grateful to the caregivers at Nurse Next Door for the profound difference they made in our lives; Rebecca and Jonathan De Witte, Elaine Hale and all of the PSWs for the outstanding care and dignity shown to Dad. Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London where the funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Sheila Macgregor on Saturday, April 26 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Private interment will take place at Pine Orchard Friends Community Cemetery (east of Newmarket, Ontario), next to his parents, later on Saturday. If so desired, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario or the Rotary Club of London Foundation.
