Helenjeane Galpin

Death Notice

GALPIN, Helenjeane ("Tyke") - In loving memory of Helenjeane Galpin of London, Ontario who passed away peacefully on May 23rd, 2014, in her 85th year, after a brief illness. Daughter of the late Freddie and Donald ("Pop") Fotheringham and wife of Robert (Bob) Galpin (predeceased). Helenjeane and Bob raised 3 children in London Ont. and spent their retirement years in Grand Bend Ont. before moving back to London. She was the loving mother of Bob (and Irene Galpin) of Orchard Park, NY, Jeane (husband Bob Falcioni) of Sudbury, ON and Penny (husband Jim Breadon) of Vancouver, BC. Helenjeane was a very special "Gran" to her 9 grandchildren: Michael Galpin (wife Christine) of Tully, NY, Matthew Galpin of Orchard Park, NY, Aaron, Christopher and Darren Falcioni of Sudbury, ON, Kristen Falcioni of Kuwait, Bryan Falcioni of Bracebridge, ON, Carla Breadon (husband Ryan Clarke) of Montreal, PQ and Hannah Breadon of Vancouver, BC, who will all miss her affection, wit and love of the natural world. Born in Calgary, Alta., Helenjeane attended high school in Ottawa, continued her skating achievements at the Minto Skating Club, and was awarded an Imperial Oil scholarship to attend the University of Toronto. Her passion was figure skating, touring with Barbara Ann Scott's "Ice Follies" across Canada in 1949. Helenjeane married Bob December 16, 1950, and raising her family became her priority. She was very involved in her children's activities, and supported her husband in the formation of the Stoneybrook Sports Association where she met many lifelong friends. She was a talented and creative person who took pride in her many beautiful knitting, and stitching projects. Over the years Helenjeane kept many good friends through her Bowling League, Bridge Club and "the Wool Shop" and more recently was helped by her good friend Cathy. The family would like to welcome friends and relatives to a memorial gathering on Saturday, July 12th, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, London, Ontario (reception will follow) to share stories and remember Helenjeane. Donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged.
