McCLURE, Charles Rafton - Peacefully at home on Thursday, September 4, 2014, Charlie McClure, of London in his 85th year. Beloved husband for 57 years of Eleanor.
Devoted father of Patricia (John Koreen) and Catherine (Chris Lierman). Proud Grandpa and Papa to Gunnar Henrik and Beckett McClure Koreen, and Jane Mary and Benjamin Charles Lierman. Son of the late Mary and George McClure. Brother of Catherine (Lloyd Van Dusen) and the late Georgina (Norman Poulton) and Bette (Allen McClure). Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews in Manitoba.
Charlie proudly worked for CP Rail for 43 years. He started at 18 years old in the mailroom, leading to a successful career in Marketing and Sales. Charlie’s career took him and his family across Canada, eventually settling and retiring in London, ON. As Charlie worked and raised his family, he accomplished his dream of attaining a University Degree at night school. He was a devout member of Siloam United Church, London and St. Stephen’s on the Hill United Church, Sudbury, serving on many committees and enthusiastically singing as a tenor in the choirs. Charlie thrived in retirement: he loved books, movies, coffee and golf with the boys, and supporting his grandchildren at all their sporting events.
Special thanks to Dr. Nancy Behme, the Cardiac Rehab Program at the Central Branch YMCA of Western Ontario, Rev. Sheila Macgregor and the Siloam United Church community.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 9 from 7-9 pm at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond. Charlie’s life will be celebrated during a memorial service at Siloam United Church, 1240 Fanshawe Park Road East, on Wednesday, September 10 at 11 am. Reception to follow in the church. Private family interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Siloam United Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Very shocked to hear of Charlie's passing. We make the wrong assumptions that guys like Charlie will just always be around..... It was Charlie's encouragement and hugs that kept me in the choir for so long even though I could not sing!!! No matter when you met Charlie, or no matter how long it had been, he would welcome you with his wry smile and a hug....Many garage sales, chicken bbq's at the old church and just nice 'tea times' with Charlie......I will treasure those memories. He was a 'one of a kind' special person.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Eleanor. May the good memories and your family help you at this time. Charlie was always at the ready to lend a hand, offer advice , or resort to his trusted "binder" when asked for his thoughts. Jane & John

My all-time favourite memory of Charlie was the looks he would give me, if I made mistake, or even better with him being on the Property Commitee, and my para ran into the church overhang, he would take one look at me and say, and quote, "I knew it was you", just joking around. Hope you heard us this morning, Charlie!!! :)

My sincere condolences to Charlie's family whom I have never met. I always admired Charlie's professionalism, wit & humour, over the number of years I was associated with him as a fellow colleague in CP Marketing & Sales. I am sure he will be greatly missed. Wish I could be there for the service. With deepest sympathy.

Our sympathies to all the McClure family on the loss of this wonderful man. Bill and Charlie greeted for the last time together in July at the Christmas in July service. As they were singing Silent Night Tavish, who was sitting between Bill and Charlie, took each of their hands in his and belted out the song. Everyone, and most definitely us, loved Charlie!
