Joan Macdonald

Death Notice

MACDONALD, Joan (nee Franks) - Peacefully at Victoria Hospital on Friday, November 14, 2014 in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Gordon Campbell (Cam) Macdonald. Loving mother of Keith (Sue), Peter (Roma), Christine (Bill Simpson), Colin (Marilyn), and Bruce (Tracy). Fondly remembered by 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Survived by brother W. James Franks of Torrance, California and predeceased by brother Peter and sister Helen. Joan was born in Toronto to Harold and Winifred Franks. She attended Branksome Hall, Trinity College and earned a diploma in Dietetics from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. Joan and Cam were married in 1943. They lived in several places across Canada as a result of Cam’s service with the RCAF before finally settling in London, Ontario in 1964. Joan was a longtime active member of St. Aidan’s Church. She was their lay delegate for 26 years. Joan will be fondly remembered for all her great stories, bridge skills, cooking, knitting and sewing. Visitation 7-9 p.m., Tuesday at the Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond. The memorial service will be conducted in St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, 1246 Oxford Street West, London, on Wednesday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Red Cross or the Diocese of Huron Hunger Fund would be gratefully acknowledged.
