DIXON, Mary Louise - Peacefully, with family by her side at University Hospital on Thursday, December 4, 2014, Mary Lou Dixon of London in her 85th year. Beloved wife of the late Rhys Dixon (2004). Loving mother of Dixon A.R. Challoner of Hamilton and the late Kevin Rhys Dixon (1974). Daughter of the late Ernest T. Grass and Mary A. (Challoner) of Tillsonburg. Survived by her cat Winnie. She attended Western University (BA 1952) and the Ontario College of Education. Mary Lou enjoyed her years teaching at Clarke Road Secondary School sharing her love of history. Later, she was an enthusiastic leader of the 40A London Brownie Pack, who fondly named her ‘Fluffy Owl’. An avid supporter of local arts, she was a long-time subscriber to UWO's Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Orchestra London, the Grand Theatre, and the Stratford Festival. Mary Lou was also a highly skilled knitter who, in recent years, was a member of the Knit Wits at First-St. Andrew’s United Church. Visitation on Friday from 7:30 to 9:00 pm at the Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, where the funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, December 13 at 2:00 pm by Rev. Dr. Kate Crawford. Cremation followed by interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or Department of Classics at Western University would be appreciated.
