Alvin Green

Death Notice

GREEN, Alvin Edward - of London died peacefully at his residence on Monday, February 23, 2015 in his 94th year. He loved, and was much loved by, his wife Agnes, daughter Terry Lynn (Hugh Fraser), and grandchildren Erin Fraser (Johnston Miller) of Corner Brook, NL and Douglas Fraser (Heidi Hildner) of Etobicoke, ON. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan as the eldest of five, Al loved and was pre-deceased by sisters, Ruth and Brittie, and brothers, Keith and Lester. He lived through the depression on the prairies and proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flight Engineering Officer during WWII. His career began as a mail sorter on the railway mail cars and culminated with his position as Canada Post's District Director for New Brunswick and PEI. In retirement he was a mainstay at the family's businesses on Adelaide Street, where his booming voice and hearty greetings are sorely missed. He married Agnes 67 years ago and his world revolved around her, particularly as her compassionate caregiver for the past seven years. He and Agnes lived in Edmonton, Saint John and London, embracing their communities as their extended family and forging deep and enduring friendships with their neighbours. In London, he participated in the planning and seamless execution of 27 neighbourhood Canada Day picnics and these events were the highlight of his year. He lived his values of hard work and self-reliance, was devoted to his family, had high expectations of them and took great pride in their accomplishments. He was a passionate Canadian with a strong knowledge and love of our great country. A reception will be held from 3-7 pm on Friday, February 27 at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James at Richmond. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice or to the Northcrest Park Endowment Fund (mail to 546 Adelaide Street North, London, ON N6B 3J5) to make improvements to the Park that is home to the Uplands Canada Day breakfasts.
