Florence Wettlaufer

Death Notice

Florence Suzanna Christina Wettlaufer (nee Haberer) Peacefully on February 26, 2015 at South Huron Hospital in Exeter, Florence passed away just short of her 90th birthday to be celebrated on March 17. Florence was born in Zurich, Ontario in 1925 to Theodore and Alma Haberer. She and her younger sister Pauline enjoyed an idyllic upbringing on the farm close to the shores of Lake Huron. Florence would come to marry Professor John Wettlaufer (deceased) from nearby Stratford, and settled in London, where they raised Mark and Anne. Florence was active in the Lutheran Church and with Western University. She enjoyed art, gardening, spending summers at Lake Huron, and playing bridge with her many friends. She was physically active throughout her life and enjoyed walks. Most of all Florence loved her time and conversations with her family including her sister Pauline Brintnell, sister-in-law Jean Newbury, cousins Chris Taylor, Gretta Pulford, Jack Haberer, her many nieces and nephews and with her very dear friends including lifelong friend Laura Boyle. The family wishes to thank Dr. Wisenberg and her GP Dr. Mawji, together with the staff members of University Hospital and South Huron Hospital for their wonderful care. As well, special thanks to Marilyn, Kim, Sherry and Mary of Medical Priorities who allowed her to stay in her home, near her friends and gardens for so long. Finally, thank you to the staff of The Bluewater Rest Home in Zurich, where she spent her last days, back in her hometown, with a view of the farm where she grew up. A service to commemorate her life will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1 Frank Place (at Wellington Road), on Tuesday March 3rd at 2 pm in London. Refreshments will be served following the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, London. Interment will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery in Zurich, Ontario once spring arrives. In lieu of flowers, donations to Redeemer Lutheran Church - Memorial Fund or South Huron Hospital Association at shha.on.ca would be appreciated.
