Florence Suzanna Christina Wettlaufer (nee Haberer)
Peacefully on February 26, 2015 at South Huron Hospital in Exeter, Florence passed away just short of her 90th birthday to be celebrated on March 17.
Florence was born in Zurich, Ontario in 1925 to Theodore and Alma Haberer. She and her younger sister Pauline enjoyed an idyllic upbringing on the farm close to the shores of Lake Huron. Florence would come to marry Professor John Wettlaufer (deceased) from nearby Stratford, and settled in London, where they raised Mark and Anne. Florence was active in the Lutheran Church and with Western University. She enjoyed art, gardening, spending summers at Lake Huron, and playing bridge with her many friends. She was physically active throughout her life and enjoyed walks. Most of all Florence loved her time and conversations with her family including her sister Pauline Brintnell, sister-in-law Jean Newbury, cousins Chris Taylor, Gretta Pulford, Jack Haberer, her many nieces and nephews and with her very dear friends including lifelong friend Laura Boyle.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Wisenberg and her GP Dr. Mawji, together with the staff members of University Hospital and South Huron Hospital for their wonderful care. As well, special thanks to Marilyn, Kim, Sherry and Mary of Medical Priorities who allowed her to stay in her home, near her friends and gardens for so long. Finally, thank you to the staff of The Bluewater Rest Home in Zurich, where she spent her last days, back in her hometown, with a view of the farm where she grew up.
A service to commemorate her life will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1 Frank Place (at Wellington Road), on Tuesday March 3rd at 2 pm in London. Refreshments will be served following the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, London. Interment will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery in Zurich, Ontario once spring arrives. In lieu of flowers, donations to Redeemer Lutheran Church - Memorial Fund or South Huron Hospital Association at shha.on.ca would be appreciated.

Dear Anne & Mark and family,
I have very fond memories of my Aunt Florence and will miss her.
Aunt Florence was always deeply interested in others and a very kind, thoughtful and loving person. I have particularly fond memories of our many family Christmas get togethers at the Wettlaufer home and at the cottage. Family has always been important and those times were filled with lots of laughter and special memories. May those ever lasting memories help to provide a sense of peace during this difficult time.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Your loving niece and cousin,

I knew your mom since I started working at Acura West 20 years ago. We had great chats about learning, gardening & life in general. She worried that her 2 door car limited her ability to drive her bridge partners around. My condolences at this sad time.

Aunt Florence was a wonderful person. She was the best host in Grand Bend. Her Labour Day bar-b-q's on the shores of Lake Huron were the highlights of summer for all of our family. She always looked out for her sister Pauline (my mom) and she was one of the few people who could handle my sense of humour!
Mark and Anne - your whole extended family wishes you strength and peace in these difficult first few days. We want you to know that we will be there for you when you need us.
We will all miss Aunt Florence but we are so grateful that we all had so many opportunities to enjoy her generosity, kindness and good heart.

Florence and Jack were names that were spoken in affection and admiration around our house as I was growing up. My parents, Nita and Walter, drew heavily on their friendship. Florence's death does mark the end of an era, one for which we are so appreciative.

Our sincere sympathy, Anne and Mark. We will miss seeing and talking with your mom when she was at your cottage in Oakwood. A loss for you certainly, but to all who knew her.

Sincerest condolences to Anne and Mark. Although I never had the honour of meeting your Mom in person I felt I knew her through Anne's stories and and very obvious devotion to a remarkable woman. Grief really is the price we pay for love and I hope you find comfort in the fact that so many people, myself included hold you in our hearts at this very difficult time.

Dear Mark and Anne- We were so sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. She was such a wonderful woman. Our children have fond memories of their visits on the beach with her. She was always so interested in their lives. We will always remember her wonderful smile and her gentle nature. Please know that we are thinking of you today. I am saddened to hear of Florence's passing, but am with her in spirit today rejoicing in her full life.
I have been blessed to have gotten to know Florence at a few of Jean's dinners. Her passion for life, kindness and wit, and intelligent conversation were always a source of pure enjoyment for me.
To Anne, Mark and the extended Wettlaufer family, I share in your sadness today. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Anne and Mark,
Vonnie and I were deeply saddened at your mother's passing. We first met her as a gracious hostess with your Dad at your home for a Christmas party and later many other memorable events. She was always friendly and interested in our busy lives and those of our children.
We will always remember her as a woman of great charm and a joy to be with. We will miss her.
