Death Notice

MUCHAN, William Wilson At University Hospital on Saturday, April 4, 2015, William Wilson “Bill" Muchan peacefully passed away in his 88th year. Beloved husband of 66 years to Audrey. Loving father of Ruth Owen, Mary Wilson, Jennifer Camman, Keith and his wife Irene, Bruce, the late Bill Jr. (2013) and his partner Susan. Proud grandfather of Elizabeth, Sam, Liam, Fraser, Matthew, Malcolm, Paul, Eric, Melanie, Carolyn and Andrew and great-grandfather of Olivia, Cameron, Gavin, Aidan, Wyatt, Morgan and Lena. Fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Born in Hamilton, graduating from the University of Toronto School of Pharmacy in 1950, with varied community, hospital and pharmaceutical industry jobs, he moved his family to London in 1956 to work for a local pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Canada Pharmacal. From there, with business partner Ernie Halpenny, they opened one of the first “Apothecary style" dispensaries in Ontario. He operated this local chain of dispensaries known as Canada Apothecary Limited from 1965 to 1988. His vision, innovation and passion for the profession of pharmacy led to the development of specialty services in Long Term Care, Pharmaceutical Compounding, Home Health Care, Mail Order delivery, and Audiology & Hearing Aid clinics. Bill provided an environment for pharmacy students and interns to train and, created a workplace where people enjoyed working. He was a mentor to many. Bill found great joy in classical music, golf, fishing and duck carving. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be fondly remembered.
