A very special friend for nearly a quarter century. We shared the love of live theatre with Huron Country Playhouse and later Drayton Entertainment, dinners and dining out and the love of Grand Bend where we both have summer homes. We spent many special holidays together at Christmas, New Years, Easter and Thanksgiving together and with friends. You are in God's hands now on the next journey of your life. Rest in peace and you will be sadly missed. Bruce Woodley

My first time meeting Mary was about 10 years ago when I arrived at my first London Skating Club meeting where she said "your late". Our friendship grew from that point on with Mary as president then Mary acting as my mentor when I was president. Mary was a true friend, always interested in my family and always willing to lend a hand. While she will be missed, her legacy of volunteering will live on.

Mary was a special friend and a great inspiration to me as a young skater and then as a judge in my youth. She was always honest and true and I am proud to have known her and loved her.

We are so sorry to learn of Mary’s passing. Our families have known each other since the 1940s, being summer neighbours and among the original settlers of the Kingsmere cottage lands along the shore of Lake Huron just north of Grand Bend. Mary was always a pleasant and cheerful neighbour and friend. And for what seemed like at least a couple of decades Mary served as the secretary-treasurer of the Kingsmere cottagers' association, back in the days before computers made that task much easier than it was then. It was a common sight to spot Mary walking door to door, first of all with the notice of the annual meeting, then the agenda for the meeting, then a short time later the minutes of the meeting, and after that a reminder to those who had not paid their annual dues. Somehow Mary found time to do all of this while at the same time keeping close ties to the Huron Country Playhouse and the grand sport of figure skating. We will miss her.

I have known Mary through skating for a great many years through judging & competitions. She was always interested in your life outside of skating too and we shared lots of conversations about teaching (we both taught), travelling, and cottage life. I will miss her smile at the Annual meeting registration table this year. My thoughts are with the family.

Having worked with Mary in many capacities within the sport of figure skating over the years, I can say that Mary was a good friend to many. She taught me so much, especially about the Chief Referee role, over the course of my involvement with the Great Lakes competition, lessons I carry with me to this day. The sport is poorer for her passing, but wealthier for her life.

The first time I met Mary was when I tried my first skating tests and she was one of the judges. Later our paths would cross through my workplace at the Skate Canada Western Ontario Section office, and more recently I would see Mary on opening nights at the Huron Country Playhouse, when I would pick my daughter up from work there. Mary was a well respected official, volunteer and person. Our sport has lost a great ambassador. Heartfelt condolences to Mary’s family.

Knowing her through figure skating, but also because she was always interested in others, and willing to share her passions for many things, I'll never forget Mary as one of the most giving, committed and competent volunteers. She was always present in many capacities - as judge and evaluator, committed too to her own club, to the skaters, as an "accountant" in the results room, and also in synchronized skating as judge and organizer. Multi talented, with such a wide range of interests, I'll miss you, Mary!

Dear Family members,
Mary was always the hardest working member of the Huron Country Playhouse Guild which is how I knew her. I enjoyed her no nonsense and down to earth attitude when I worked with her and she always made me laugh. She had a cheeky sense of humour and she will be certainly missed by many friends.
My sincere condolences,

A part of my childhood has moved on. Mary was such a major part of what the cottage was growing up. She was always there, visiting everyone and always had a story to tell. Trying to keep the kids under control yet we still found the gully :) I will miss her..she was Kingsmere.

Mary made an impression on everyone she met! Mary taught myself, my brother John and sister Jill at Clarke Road Secondary School. Mary inspired me and so many other students during her years at Clarke Road. She made everlasting connections with her students that were life long. My family will never forget you! Rest peacefully, Mary.
