James Davis Talman
JAMES DAVIS TALMAN
July 24, 1931 - September 24, 2015
We are saddened by the loss of Jim, who died peacefully after a short stay in the hospital.
First and foremost, Jim was a dedicated scientist. He investigated nature at its smallest scales, developing descriptions of electronic structure in atomic and molecular physics. His career at UWO spanned more than 50 years. Beyond his work, he was devoted to his family, and enjoyed listening to jazz, solving cryptic crosswords, traveling, watching sports and reading.
Jim is survived by his energetic wife Ragnhild, the unofficial Norwegian ambassador of London. His honesty, fairness and dry humour will be missed by children Liv, Stephen, Marianne (Ted), and Eric (Jennifer). Survived also by brother Richard and predeceased by parents Ruth Helen and James John Talman. Jim once said that children are OK, but grandchildren are really great, and his love went to Eric, Sara, and Jim of Toronto, Anna and Luke of Edmonton, Robert and Andrea of Hamilton, and Emily and Chloe of Vancouver. Special thanks go to his friends and colleagues around the world who showed interest and encouraged him in his work. He will be missed by many.
In accordance with his wishes there will be no funeral, but please consider making a donation in his memory to the Palliative Care Unit, University Hospital, care of London Health Sciences Foundation.
