Death Notice

HENDERSON, Donald Alexander - Born May 28, 1920, in a horse-drawn buggy near Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Don’s life journey ended in London, Ontario, on Saturday, April 2, 2016, in his 96th year. Don was raised on a family farm Paisley Block (Guelph). He apprenticed as a cheese maker but aspired to more. He attended McMaster University, earning a MSc. in Chemistry in 1945. He was employed by Polysar of Sarnia most of his working life. He chose to write his patent exams and was licenced in 1957. Don ultimately became Manager of Polysar’s Patent Department and travelled extensively in the U.S. and Europe in this capacity. Don’s passions in life were his wife, family, genealogy and investment portfolios. Married in 1948 to Isobel Ruth Buchanan of Toronto, they raised two children Lyla Jane (Robert) Pietrzak of London, Ont. and Donald Scott (Heather) of Richards Landing, Ont. He was the grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents Irvine Bell and Margaret May (McIntosh) Henderson and siblings Angus (Edith), Lyla (William), Ken (Wilma), Peggy (Neil). Don will be missed by many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Don's life will take place on Monday, April 18 from 7 - 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, London. Cremation has taken place. Don will be laid to rest with his parents and relatives (McIntosh, Hadden, Fife, Rife and McRae) at Woodlawn Cemetery in Guelph. Don was a kind man who gave generously to a wide variety of charities. In lieu of flowers, please give generously to the charity of your choice.
