Jean Archibald

Death Notice

ARCHIBALD, Jean MacNair Shaw - Nov. 3, 1921 - July 21, 2016 - Born in Swift Current, SK, eldest daughter of Alexander and Mary (MacDonald) Shaw (Scottish Highlanders who came to Canada in 1916). Jean attended public school at St Joan of Arc Academy in Swift Current and Ewart College in Toronto. On June 21, 1943 Jean married Rev. Donald Archibald and lived happily in Presbyterian manses in Nova Scotia and Ontario. Painting was a lifelong hobby, as children and time permitted. Jean attended Nova Scotia School of Art, Chautauqua Summer School of Art and various workshops in New York State, London, Guelph and Owen Sound and exhibited and sold her art at the St Paul’s annual Art Show in London and both the London and Owen Sound Art Galleries and many art shows. Jean loved to travel especially to Scotland and across Canada. Jean loved to bake and cook, sew and smock and was an antique enthusiast. Jean enjoyed her years as librarian at Westhill Secondary School in Owen Sound. After retirement, Jean and Don relocated to London Ontario, where Jean was a member of the Newcomers’ Club, I.O.D.E., WMS, Art Circle and Gardner Galleries. Dear wife of Rev. Donald Archibald (Feb. 17 1997), beloved mother of Marybel (Raymond), Catherine (Aug. 1, 2009), John (Trish) and 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Loved Sister of Mary Taylor (Ron, 2000) and Iona McMillan (Bill) and kind Aunt to many. Friend to even more!! Many thanks to the caring palliative care at Woodingford Lodge. The church was so much a part of Jean’s life especially Cornerstone Presbyterian, Tara ON, East River St. Mary’s Presbyterian, NS, New St. James Presbyterian, London ON, and Westminster Presbyterian, Paisley ON. The funeral service will be held at New St. James Presbyterian Church, 280 Oxford St. E., London, ON, on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 1 pm. Interment at a later date at Salem, Bruce County.
