Betty Jane Blackwell (formerly Travers), nee Ramsay
Blackwell, Betty Jane, (formerly Travers), nee Ramsay - Betty Jane Blackwell passed away suddenly at Westmount Gardens on Friday, November 18, 2016. She was in her 97th year and had enjoyed a long and generous life.
She was an avid traveller. She saw most of North America and New Zealand by motorhome, visited several continents on land and by cruise ship and sailed extensively in three of the Great Lakes. Nevertheless, she was always happy to come home where she enjoyed bridge with friends, travelogues, walks outdoors and trying out new restaurants. In later years, she became an armchair sports fan cheering for the Blue Jays and the Canadian curlers wherever they may be competing.
Betty was a proud, life-long Londoner and offered her support to the community through the London Symphony Ladies Auxiliary and as a member and former Regent of the Colonel William Gartshore Chapter IODE.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Patricia (Scott), Ramsay (Sylvia) and Paula (Leigh) with her first husband, the late Mark Travers (1969).
She will be fondly remembered by her six step-children: Alec (Margo), Genevieve, Frederick (Kim), Douglas (Christina), Richard and the late Robert with her second husband, the late Victor Blackwell (2012) and their families.
She was a proud grandmother to Mark and Megan, Lindsay and Reagen, and step-grandchildren Julie and Michelle; and, a dear great-grandmother to Alexandra, Lochlainn, Ava, Logan, Sierra and Teddy.
Betty, the eldest daughter of the late Viola and Randolph Ramsay of London, was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Montgomery (2000). She is also fondly remembered by her nephews, Randy and Jamie Montgomery, as well as many cousins and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Westmount Gardens for their caring support for Betty during the past years.
A Memorial Service will be held at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St James St. at Richmond, London, on Thursday, November 24, at 1:00 PM followed by a reception. The family will welcome family and friends from 12:30 PM.
