Ruth Dawson

Death Notice

DAWSON, Ruth Gertrude - on her 99th birthday, Friday, February 10, 2017. Ruth passed away peacefully in her sleep at Amica Retirement Community, London, Ontario. She is survived by her sons, John (Dee), Doug (Jayne) and Michael (Barb) and her grandchildren Ashley (Matthew Watkins), Georgia (Taylor Vaughn), Stuart (Natalie), Alex, Frances, Douglass, Claire and Dougall, her great-grandchildren Jude, Roman and Jack. She was predeceased by her husband, Stuart (2012), and her brothers, Alfred, Donald and Jack. Ruth was born in Penetanguishene. Her life adventures took her from Sandy Bay, bumping along the back roads with Tommy Seagram, brother Jack, and Jim and Mary Spohn in Seagram’s Marmon; splashing out to Beausoleil Island in the outboard; Penetang High (“You Bet We Are the Best"); onto St Clement’s on the Hill (“Keep on Smiling") for senior matriculation; and the Mutual Life Insurance Company in Waterloo and in Toronto. After a whirlwind courtship, she was declared a tax deduction for Stuart in December, 1951, and became a long-time resident of London, Ontario, where she moved as a young bride and proudly raised their three boys. She was an extraordinary joke and storyteller (most of which could not be shared in polite company) and maintained her keen wit and amazing sense of humour until the very end. Many thanks to the staff of Amica for their kindness. A private family service will be held in St. Aidan’s Chapel at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Saturday, February 18. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
