Dougal was Best Man at Diane's and my wedding nearly 36 years ago. He will be much missed. The picture of him sailing his boat captures him just as I want to remember him.

My sincere condolences to Dougal's wife,Annie, and family and to his daughters, Melanie and Michelle; his sister, Jeanie, and his brothers, Jim, Charlie, and Rob. Douglas was a free spirit in life and I will always remember him that way. God bless, Dougal, you left us too soon.

When Dougal was born, I went from being an only child to the status of big brother. Sometimes that was bothersome to Dougal, but mostly he trusted me in that role. His life journey was not always smooth sailing, but his gentle nature was positive most of the time. When Sue joined our family 51 years ago, Dougal was one of the first people to express his joy and congratulations. He was a groomsman at our wedding. He had to take a leave of absence from the US Coast Guard and barely made it on time for the ceremony. Dougal was one of the kindest and most generous people Sue and I have ever known. His wife Annie, daughters Melanie and Michelle, our nieces, made his last years better because of their devoted love, care and attention. Sailing, music, the sound of waves and wind and his zest for life are reflected upon his face in the photograph of Dougal on his sailboat. We will think of Dougal with fondness now and forever. May God bless his soul as he begins his next voyage.

Sending my sincere condolences to Dougals family. he will be missed and remembered by many. I remember Dougal from growing up in Leith. He had a different agenda from the rest of us at the time. He had that love of the water and was such a gentle and calm person to be around. I'll remember him with fondness. May the memories you shared bring you peace in the future.

We never met Dougal yet we know how much he was cherished by his remarkable daughters, Melanie and Michelle. The bonds they forged throughout various circumstances, are enduring and deeply personal. Melanie and Michelle's formative experiences and shared, joyful memories with their father have helped shape the strong, dedicated women they are.
"May the winds of love blow softly
And whisper in your ear,
We will always love and miss you
And wish that you were here"

"There is a pleasure in the pathless woods:
There is a rapture on the lonely shore:
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep sea and music in it's roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more..."
