Death Notice

WEST Norman William West, Professor Emeritus UWO, peacefully at home on Monday, May 28, 2007, age 81. Beloved husband for 57 years and best friend of Shiela. Loving father of David and his wife Karen of Scarborough, Bruce and his wife Sylvia of London, Joanne and her husband Bob of Barrie. Proud grandfather of Katie, Daniel, Jenny, Jonathan, Jessie, Michael, Ryan, Jordan, Lisa, Lyndsay and Levi. Norm served as a Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. After graduating from the University of Toronto, Norm taught in Brampton, North York, and at University of Toronto Schools and McMaster University. While teaching at Althouse College, University of Western Ontario, he continued his professional studies earning his Doctorate in Education from Ohio State University in the early 1970's. He will be remembered as a long-time influential educator and coach in the field of Health and Physical Education. Dedicated to his community and profession, Norm served in the following organizations: Canadian Association of Physical and Health Education, Recreation and Dance (CAPHERD), Rotary Club of London West, Probus, and the Unitarian Fellowship of London. A celebration of Norm's life will be held at the Unitarian Fellowship of London, 557 Clarke Road, on Saturday, June 2 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Rotary Club of London West Foundation or the Unitarian Fellowship of London would be gratefully acknowledged.
