Betty Spicer

Death Notice

SPICER Elizabeth "Betty" Spicer, peacefully at University Hospital, London on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, in her 92nd year. Loving daughter of the late Charles and Mary Spicer. Sister-in-law of Marjorie Spicer of Guelph. Dear aunt of Sharman Spicer (Barbara), Marguerite Spicer (Marcel), Christine Migneault (James), Wendy Spicer, and Gary Spicer. Great-aunt of Mark Spicer and Deborah Woelfle (Gary). Predeceased by her brothers Charles Spicer (Mayfred) and Jack Spicer. Miss Spicer was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (Honors English and History), the Ontario College of Education, and the Library School of the University of Toronto. As head of the Reference Department of the London Public Library, Miss Spicer organized the local history collection in the London Room. She received a citation from the London and Middlesex Historical Society, the Ontario Genealogical Society- London and Middlesex Region. She was also a member of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario-London Region, Museum London, a member of the Diocese of Huron Archives Committee, and archivist for the Church of St. John the Evangelist. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London. The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 280 St. James Street at Wellington, London. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Guelph. Memorial contributions to the London Humane Society would be gratefully acknowledged.
