PLEVA Dr. Edward Gustav Pleva at Chelsey Park Retirement Community on February 7, 2008 at the age of 95. Dearly beloved husband of the late Mrs. Grace C. Pleva. Beloved father of James F. Pleva of Guelph and Michael G. Pleva of London. Dear brother of the late Joseph F. Pleva. Cherished uncle of Betsy J. Singer and her husband Michael of California and Laird A. Horman and his wife Mary Lou of Florida. Also survived by sister-in-law Ethel F. Horman of Florida. Founder and former head of the Department of Geography at the University of Western Ontario. Chaired city and suburban planning boards for London and region. Played a major role in developing Ontario's geography curriculum for secondary schools. First editor of "The Canadian Geographer" and the "Ontario Geography Monographs". Received honorary degrees from Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfred Laurier University) and the University of Western Ontario. In 1987, the University of Western Ontario established the Edward G. Pleva Award for Excellence in Teaching awarded each year to full-time members of the faculty of Western and its affiliated colleges. Friends may call during the hour preceding the funeral service which will be conducted at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, on Thursday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Keith Rameshwar of Robinson Memorial United Church officiant. Cremation with interment at a later date.
