Maria Sfalcin

Death Notice

Maria (Perin) Sfalcin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 with her family by her side, in her 94th year. Beloved wife of the late Giovanni (1994), Maria is survived by her daughter Luisa and son-in-law Louis Nelson, her son Mario and daughter-in-law Christy Sfalcin, her sister Vittoria in Italy, her grandchildren Henry, Anne Marie, Jennifer, Trisha and Michael, her great grandchildren Beatrice, Charlie, Chiara and Wilson, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins in Toronto, Windsor, Sarnia and Italy. Born in Sacile, Italy in 1914 to Antonio and Regina Perin, she was one of thirteen children. In 1947, Maria moved with her husband Giovanni, young daughter Luisa and infant son Mario to Windsor, Ontario. Maria was instrumental in bringing many family members over for a better life in Canada and helping other immigrant families adjust to life in a new country. Throughout her life, Maria was dedicated to her family, friends and the Catholic Church, always sacrificing her time and energy to give to others. The family moved to London, Ontario in 1959. Maria was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She will be forever remembered for her delicious polenta, lovely gardens and generous nature. In her 88th year, Maria moved to Twin Lakes Terrace in Sarnia to be near her son and his family. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Twin Lakes Terrace for their wonderful care of our Nonna. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street, London. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 12, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 345 Lyle Street, London. Private family interment will take place at Windsor Memorial Gardens.
