Thorn, G. Denis - quietly at Strathroy-Middlesex General Hospital on Friday, June 19, 2009, George Denis Thorn of Sprucedale Care Centre and formerly of London, age 88. Beloved husband of the late Gwen (2004). Loving father of Ralph and Frances of Middlesex Centre, Susan of Atlin, B.C. and Greg and Nina of London. Dear grandfather of Carlo, Jackson, Heather, Doug and Nelson and great-grandfather of Nelson, Dylan, Riel and Lily. Also survived by brother-in-law Donald Daw and his wife Wilma, sister-in-law Ruth Daw and eleven nieces and nephews and their families in Alberta, Washington State and Australia. Pre-deceased by his parents George B.L. and Margery (Winn) Thorn, brother John Anthony and his wife Helen, and brother-in-law Clifford Daw. Denis was born in London, England and raised in St. Omer, France and Edmonton, Alberta. He began his career as a professor at Mt. Allison University and later was a research chemist at London's Agriculture Canada Research Centre until retirement. After retirement, Denis pursued a career in lapidary and jewelry making. He and Gwen loved the outdoors with especially strong ties to Algonquin Park.
