Searle, Dorothy Wellington

Peacefully with her family at her side in her 87th year, after a brief illness, on Saturday April 10, 2010, Dorothy (Dulmage) Searle of London. Beloved wife of the late Elmer Charles Searle (1986). Loving mother of John (Gillian Mayne), Catherine (Peter Brown), Nancy, and Douglas (Anita Verhoeven). Adoring “Grandma” to Karlee, Nathan, and Claire who will miss her dearly and forever hold her in their hearts. A special place in her heart was held for Heather, Andrew, and Patrick. Dear Sister of the late Barbara and her husband, the late Dr. Norman Boyd. Dear aunt “Doddy” to Judy Manning, the late Dr. Rick Boyd (Jane Boyd), Mary Hopkins, and Heather Munro (Bob) and their children. Dorothy was the second born to Lou and Harry Dulmage and was born in Port Arthur, Ontario (Thunder Bay).

Dorothy was raised in London, attended South Secondary School, and then on to both the University of Western Ontario (Bachelor of Arts, 1946) and University of Toronto (Bachelor of Social Work, 1947). Always a tender and caring soul, upon graduating from UofT, Dorothy went on to work for the Children’s Aid Society of London. Later when her all her children were school age, Dorothy returned to her social work career at Victoria Hospital and Parkwood Hospital.

The family wish to thank the physicians and nurses at University Hospital, Palliative Care, who were very caring and compassionate to her and her family in her final days.

The funeral service will be conducted at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James St. at Richmond, on Tuesday, April 13 at 12:00 noon by the Rev. David R. Carrothers. Visitation on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service. Cremation and private interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
