Death Notice

Harris, Roland (Rolly) - After almost 35 years of happy and contented retirement in his 95th year, Rolly, son of the late Charles and Christina Harris of London, formerly of Fingal, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Mt. Hope Centre for Long Term Care. Beloved husband and companion of the late Audrey (Alexander) (February 9, 2010) for more than 71 years. Dear father of Pat and her husband Bill Cartier and Ellen and her husband Don Powell. Loving grandfather of D'Arcy Cartier. Dear brother-in-law of Gladys Harris, England and Ruth Alexander, Brantford. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Predeceased by brothers Walter, Wilbert, Albert and Harold (England) and sisters Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) O'Connor and Mrs. David (Alberta) Elwood. Rolly retired December 30, 1975 as Director of the then Southwestern Ontario Postal District after more than 35 years of service. He was a member of the Armed Forces during World War II, serving in Canada, Britain and the Continent. He was a life member of the Masonic Wellington Victory Lodge 46, Chatham, Ontario. The family would like to thank Dr. Persaud and the 5th Floor staff at St. Mary's, Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care for their compassion, kind care and concern for Rolly. Friends may call at James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London during the hour preceding the funeral service which will be conducted on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. by Pastor Don Howard. Private family interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London.
