Peacefully at Parkwood Hospital on Easter Sunday April 24, 2011, Ethel Humphreys (nee Benbow) passed away in her 102nd year. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Alwyn Humphreys (1996) and precious son David (1956). Loving and devoted mother of Gwyneth and late son-in-law John King (July 2010) of London, Ontario. Cherished grandmother to David, Steven and his wife Sandra. Treasured great grandmother to Colwyn, Deven, Elyse and Dylan. Predeceased by siblings Elizabeth, Gordon and Sidney. Ethel will be fondly remembered with love and affection by many nephews, nieces and their families. Ethel was born October 8, 1909 in London, Ontario, daughter of Alfred and Ada Benbow. She grew up, raised her family and spent her many years of retirement on the same beautiful property her family purchased in 1921. Ethel worked at London Life for several years. After a life well lived with grace, generosity, kindness and courage, Ethel will be forever loved and in all our thoughts. The family extends their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Hertzman and her associates, hospital staff, volunteers and especially the nurses in Palliative Care for their kindness, care and compassion. Not only were they her caregivers, they became Ethel's friends. Friends will be welcomed at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James at Richmond, on Thursday April 28 from 7-9 pm. A celebration of Ethel's life will be held in the funeral home on Friday April 29 at 11am, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
